Written Reflection.

I am genuinely looking forward to proceeding in media and finding out more interesting things. I enjoyed watching the video on horror films on the beaverwood media blogspot website, it taught me about camera angles, and some prospects that are used in most horror films that add that fear factor.

Media Guardian - Five ways the MTV video music awards are like the DNC

I automatically found this post interesting because I thought it was mad how they could compare the MTV awards to the Democratic National Convention (DNC.)

The power of Twitter relates the two subjects, as supporters of each of the different 'acts' gather other support and tweet there ideas and praise for celebrities and politions. I found it funny how when they related the style between the two controversial categories they displayed Michelle Obama and Lady GaGa, although GaGa's outfit will be slightly more outrageous they both will make a political statement.

I enjoyed reading this article because it portrayed points about the DMC and the MTV awards that I would never have thought of, some making me laugh.

Mrs Biggs ( part 1 )

Mrs Biggs is a periodic drama directed by Paul Whittington, based on the great train robbery, focussing on Ronnie Biggs and Devoted wife Charmaine Biggs.  The great train robbery took place in 1963, many men were involved in the scheme, however, the programme mainly focusses on Ronnie Biggs and Bruce Reynolds. Mrs Charmaine Biggs (Sheridan Smith) was a humble daughter of a strict headmaster, but Sheridan Smith's convincing performance helps the audience understand how one person can change the way you look at life. Charmaine met Ronnie Biggs (Danny May's) on a train on her way back from work, Danny May easily portrays a cheeky chappy and wins the heart of his good girl, the pair run away from Charmaine's domineering father, stealing from her workplace in the process. After Ronnie Biggs commits a burglary, he gives himself up for the safety of his love. The telegraph describes this as 'one of the most curious creations recently seen on tv.'

Media Representation

Media Representation is the way the media portray what they see, they create events and character and invite us to see the world in a particular way.
Media representaions may not always be real, but they can shed some light on reality. For example :
Channel 4's 'Shameless' is based on a council estate in Manchester, portraying the alcohlic and drug abusing lives of certain families who live in this area. The media is not saying this is a correct way to lead a healthy life style, however all though this is a made up fictional series, these events and lifestyles are active in our country.
However portraying one part of England like this, paints a picture that this is how the whole of the country is, to someone with little knowledge on where we live.

Three Resources I found most interesting/helpful:

- ' Your AS Media Bridging Unit '
I found this link extremely helpful, as it gave a clear explanation of the breakdown for this AS level. It has also helped towards my bridging task, as it offers a helpful marking criteria.

- ' The Horror Genre '
I found this post/video extremely interesting, as I had no previous knowledge of the genre horror.
I learnt that the 4 key aspects of making a successful horror film are to:
- Define
-Stylize
-Shoot
-Edit

The post also informed me that directors use 'crooked angles' and shakey shots' to create suspense and effect through camera angles. A director will also use thematic editing, using an A-B image to convey emotion.

-Storyboarding (AFI's Lights, Camera, Education!)
I found this post/video very helpful, it has allowed to me to understand that in order to be successful within the film industry, after writing a script the director must then create a story board. They are referred to as blue prints and visual maps, this highlights the importance of them and how they are significant within the structure and successful transitions within the film.
It pleased me to find out that you do not have to be a good drawer in order to create a story board ! :D
