Media Representation

Media Representation is the way the media portray what they see, they create events and character and invite us to see the world in a particular way.
Media representaions may not always be real, but they can shed some light on reality. For example :
Channel 4's 'Shameless' is based on a council estate in Manchester, portraying the alcohlic and drug abusing lives of certain families who live in this area. The media is not saying this is a correct way to lead a healthy life style, however all though this is a made up fictional series, these events and lifestyles are active in our country.
However portraying one part of England like this, paints a picture that this is how the whole of the country is, to someone with little knowledge on where we live.

  1. Clear understanding shown. This image will be particularly useful - and something we'll come back to in detail when we study TV drama.
